I am a sixth generation Jackson resident who has had the pleasure of serving Teton County as a deputy sheriff for 19 years. During that time, I worked my way up through the ranks, holding or supervising nearly every position in the agency. I held the rank of Captain and Lieutenant for the last seven years of my service. I was always highly respected by my peers and worked well with the Teton County Commissioners.
I graduated in 1993 from Casper College with a degree in aviation and I graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2010. I still have great relationships with law enforcement professionals from all over the world who were in my classes. I have a strong background in forensics and I am a Certified Accident Reconstructionist, graduating from Northwestern University’s Traffic Institute and have testified in court as an expert. In total, I have more than 3,000 hours of law enforcement training, a Professional Peace Officer certificate, and I have not only taken, but also led many leadership classes to enhance my leadership roles in the Teton County Sheriff’s office. I am currently working for Wyoming Landscape Contractors.
I am a commercially-rated pilot who has served as an aerial firefighter, a member of the Civil Air Patrol, a division of the US Air Force as a 2nd Lt., a Rotary Club member, a 4-H parent and volunteer, youth athletics volunteer/coach, I have served meals at the Senior Center of Jackson Hole and I volunteer to help Station 3 Firefighters with their annual picnic.
I was instrumental in changing our animal control officer from a civilian position to a sworn deputy allowing us to have a greater presence in outlying and under-served areas of the county. Not only did I receive a grant to buy the first law enforcement drone which is used for search and rescue, planning, scene investigation and tactical operations in Teton County, but I also wrote and received a $100,000 grant to upgrade Teton County Sheriff’s department radios.
My goal is to strengthen the sheriff’s office from the inside out so that it can strengthen its ties to the community.
And most importantly, I am a proud husband and father of two teenagers with a large extended family in the area. That is one reason why public safety is paramount to me.
